Witch Collection
$8.99
As my daughter practices The Witches Dance for a performance later this month at Boxerwood Gardens, I'm reminded of witches and what a witch is.
In Pakistan we were told stories of a 'churail' with iron claws who lurked by bridges and she could spirit you away to other worlds where you would be lost forever, which meant one crossed bridges with a prayer on the lips for safe passage.
I found the symbolism behind the bridge striking, as what is a witch but a woman who bridges worlds .... folklore, fairytales, and stories from around the world feature witches.
Be it Baba Yaga, the witches of Oz, or the 'churail' of Karachi's bridges, besides being women who exercise power, what they have in common is that they access the perceptible and the imperceptible, bridging worlds, then fuse the two into something tangible; be it a potion, a spell, or a pair of shoes.
Some say October is the Witchy Season, which has inspired this series.
