In 1997 VMI, one of the two colleges in my home town down the mountain, began accepting women as students (cadets). The institute fought hot and hard against this, all the way to The Supreme Court where Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg's dedication and advocacy for gender equality prevailed ... despite protest, controversy, and angry debate. 2022 marked the first time a woman cadet was selected as Cadet First Captain and Regimental Commanding Officer and she is my inspiration to paint VMI's women on my wood ornaments.
My ornaments make lovely art gifts at Christmas, Solstice, or as a housewarming present; they are beautiful on a wall or hanging from the boughs of a holiday tree in the winter.
